Pool Service FAQs

How often should my pool be cleaned?

The frequency of residential swimming pool cleaning depends on several factors, including usage, environmental conditions, and the type of filtration system.

In an ideal world, a pool would be cleaned daily with a chemical adjustment of the water as this ensures ideal chemistry (pH, Alkalinity, and chlorine levels). However, daily maintenance is unrealistic for the majority of residential pool owners. A pool professional does cleaning and makes chemical adjustments each week with the knowledge that he will not be returning to the property for seven days.

A general guideline is as follows:

Weekly Maintenance

  • Skimming: Remove leaves, insects, and other debris from the pool's surface.

  • Brushing: Brush the walls and floor of the pool to prevent algae growth and remove dirt.

  • Water Testing: Test the water chemistry (pH, chlorine, alkalinity, calcium hardness) and adjust as needed.

  • Empty Skimmer and Pump Baskets: Clear out any debris that has accumulated.

  • Inspect Pool Equipment: Check the pump, filter, heater, and other equipment for any signs of wear, leaks, or damage.

Monthly Maintenance

  • Filter Cleaning/Backwashing: Depending on your filter type (cartridge, D.E., sand), you'll need to clean or backwash it to maintain optimal filtration. Cartridge filters typically need cleaning every 4-6 months, while sand filters and D/E filters are backwashed when pressure rises.

Annual Maintenance - as needed

  • Deep Cleaning: This may involve more thorough scrubbing, and every situation is different. The most common seasonal maintenance for an Arizona pool is draining and chemically cleaning the pool's interior, ensuring fresh water and a clean surface to start the upcoming season.

Do I still need service in the winter?

Arizona's warm climate means that pool ownership comes with year-round responsibilities, even during the cooler months when swimming might be less frequent.

Maintaining a pool throughout the year is crucial, primarily to preserve the water's quality and the pool's structural integrity. Even if the pool remains unused for extended periods, the water's chemical balance must be regularly adjusted.

Not to mention dust, dirt, and various forms of debris that can enter the pool even when it's covered.  Regular skimming and vacuuming are essential to remove these contaminants before they can settle and contribute to water quality degradation or clog the filtration system.

Neglecting pool maintenance can lead to a host of problems, including stubborn stains on the pool's surfaces, the proliferation of unsightly and unhealthy algae, and other issues stemming from unbalanced water chemistry. These problems, once they take root, can be far more costly and time-consuming to resolve than consistent preventative maintenance.

How much does professional pool cleaning cost?

Every pool is different. For a standard play pool, weekly service is priced at $125 per month, which covers labor. Chemicals are an additional charge, billed at the end of each month based on actual usage. This comprehensive service includes:

  • Chemical checks and adjustments

  • Brushing of steps and walls

  • Debris removal from the pool and baskets

  • Equipment inspection

  • Backwashing

  • Salt cell cleaning (if needed)

After each service, we will email you a photo of your pool and test strip and a detailed report of services completed and chemicals added. This routine maintenance ensures your pool remains clean and safe and helps us identify potential issues early.

Pool Repair FAQs

How do I know if my pool filter or pump needs repair?

Your pool's filter and pump are essential for its proper functioning. The filter keeps the water clean and clear, while the pump circulates it. Here are some key indicators that may suggest a need for repair:

  • Cloudy Pool Water: Observe if the water is cloudy or dirty, if it's circulating properly, and if your cleaning system or vacuum is working as expected.

  • Filter Pressure: Both high and low filter pressure can signal an inefficient system or equipment malfunction. Your pool service professional, or you as a pool owner, can quickly assess the health of your system by monitoring the filter pressure at a given pump speed and valve setting.

  • Equipment Noise: Any unusual sounds coming from your pool system can be a sign of a problem. Familiarity with your system's normal operating sounds will help you identify when something is amiss.

  • Water Leaks: Actively leaking water or water accumulation around your pool equipment requires immediate attention, as it often indicates a need for repair.

Can you handle green or cloudy pool water?

Yes, we can handle both.

Cloudy water often points to filtration system problems, such as a malfunctioning pump, dirty cartridges, or issues with sand or D.E. filters.

Green water, on the other hand, typically indicates a chemical imbalance, most commonly insufficient chlorine. While chemical treatments can be applied to green water, draining and chemically treating the pool's interior offers the most effective and lasting solution.
